Hey there,
There are quite a few exciting parts in writing and publishing a book, and I am in a constant state of high day after day because there is always something new to learn and do.
Two months ago I didn’t even know I would write a book, and today, here I am, with a completed manuscript, a fully formatted ebook and an almost ready paperback — just finalising a few details.
Two months ago I had no idea if I would ever get to this point and now I can say that I learnt so many new things I never even thought I had to know. Seemingly small things like how to write an acknowledgement or how to get Microsoft Word to start your page numbering on a specific page instead of doing it automatically or not at all. (I’m not saying that this latter is the most interesting of all, but now I know this one too.)
Last week I already told you about the title, which I am in love with and I think it’s brilliant.
Today, I would like to share the cover design with you — done by my super talented brother. He has been so patient with me through all the modification rounds! At least I didn’t tell him to “make my logo bigger” but we went through the “not this font”, “not this size”, “fade it”, “don’t fade it”, “can I see this in red?”, “oh, no, that’s terrible, let’s go back to version 102 instead”, “oh wait, I sent the wrong text” etc. Considering that I am coming from advertising where I was quite good at what I was doing, I have to realize that I am a terrible client when it comes to my own “baby”.
There are still some final touches needed — mainly on the back of it, but this is it! What do you think?
I got a few comments from fellow writers and friends, saying that it is unclear if it’s a self-help book or a memoir, but I am fine with that. It is a bit of both, not a traditional self-help book and not a classic memoir either, but there are elements of both.
All I know, that I can’t wait to have a copy in my hands.
There is a bit of symbolism at play here. The experiences I had — that led me to write this book — were really full of darkness. The healing journey was tough and long and writing has been a tool for me to get to the other side. Somehow, finishing it makes it complete. And having it as a physical book has another layer to it. Books are magic. You open them and you find yourself in another world, another space, another time. But it’s safe because whenever you want, you can close them.
My journey to healing will come to an end when I can close this book and put it away on my bookshelf. And it sounds pretty amazing if you ask me.
Thank you so much for filling out the survey I sent out. And thanks for offering me your help. I will reach out to you personally when the book is out, and I thank you in advance for any support.
If you wondered what kind of support I would need, don’t freak out, it’s just the really simple things: writing a review, sharing a link or recommending it personally to those who you think would benefit of it. And of course, if you buy it and read it, that’s great too!
And so that you shouldn’t be too bored during the weekend, I am sharing a few of my latest articles with you. (You can check them out all for free, the link takes you beyond the Medium paywall; if you clap 50 it helps me getting more eyes on them.)
